I'm using a home-brew David Scanner with structured light as opposed to the laser. The new David hardware/software unit has (according to their newsletter) a faster camera, so live subjects are more easily scanned than before.
Usually the subjects I scan are life-casts, or portrait sculptures that are re-meshed cleaned up, etc in ZBrush.
I ended up having to make a 2-axis scanning yoke, as a turntable was not letting me see up people's nostrils.

It's not automated, its important to see where shadows fall to get a good scan, and pre-set increments of x degrees won't cut it.

The David scanner, and the B9 are a great match.

Both have become integral to our work-flow. The B-9 has eliminated a lot of service bureau headaches.
