New HD b9creator

Hi everyone,

I'm really really interested by the B9creator, but for me the build volume in XY are too small.
I saw somewhere on that forum that Mike is going to prepare a HD version, maybe for the end of summer.
Mike, could you tell more about the new version ? ( build area ect ... ) Do you know ( approximativly ) when you think you will release it ?

Nothing planned yet, still busy with the current version (software updates and documentation). I've looked at 1080p projector but yet to find one that meets my requirements. If/when I do this I plan to provide an upgrade path from the current version.

To add 25 xy to the software would be a great start!!

If you want to "experiment" with 25 micron XY just use the current software. Physically set up your projector such that each focused pixel is 25 microns XY (good luck with that!) and still use 50 XY in the software. Then in Layout, scale your object in the Z by 0.5. Slice and print and your object will have the correct aspect ratio. Not a permanent solution, but it will work while you are experimenting with higher xy resolutions AND it won't confuse the software use for the majority of users that have the standard setup.

Gad, Glacian was asking Mike, if the parameter which makes a projector meet his requirements is the lumens.

I wouldn't go by lumens, they vary wildly between manufacturers. Look at bulb wattage, find one with at least a 220 watt bulb.

Another question about lumens vs. wattage:

People have written here in the forums that the projector puts off a lot of heat.
With the advances in LED technology, do you suppose that projectors that use LED bulbs with equivalent lumens don't have to have such high wattage, since their efficiency is much higher?

Take a look at the light spectrum on the LEd and compare it to the incandescent lamp in the projector. You'll understand why it is not usable as of now, or without modifications.
TIP - we need UV part of spectrum under 400 nm.

The (relative) simplicity of the B9 is why I went with it - the genius of using a consumer video projector means that the core imaging of the system can be swapped by getting a different projector. Makes me feel like there is some degree of "future-proofing" (what a naive term, right?) built in to the B9 system.

I think the current res is acceptable - I'd like to have a larger imaging area that a higher-res projector theoretically could provide.

I think that one of Mike's thoughts here is that it isn't just a matter of making the build area bigger - some of us want higher resolution for the same build area. My modelmaking is currently 'limited' by the 50um XY (by limited I mean that's what's stopping me from getting even better results, not that I am in any way unhappy with it). So a new projector will need to be able to cater for both sets of requirements or it might only be useful for 1/2 the people.

That is actually very strange - how they intend it to use in the consumer products if it has so much of UV radiation, moreover peak luminescence is really in the middle on UV-A spectrum... That is strange.

Anyways, the second reason here is you need DOT style light source not the surface.

I like the dual motors on that printer - would make a nice enhancement to the B9 and alleviate the occasional Z skipping. Then again, that printer costs over eight grand...
