Re: Vats out of stock

HiMike,
The new vat looks really nice. Is it glass bottomed in the grow area? Looks almost like you could slide the glass in and out.
What will be the cost for the vat? coated with pdms or not?

Thanks. The window area is acrylic, permanently bonded to the vat to avoid any chance of leak/failure. It will only come pre-coated. Final cost still TBD, but will likely be ~$80 retail.

So the new vat will be less clear I assume than the aluminum which has a glass?

Ok, cool idea.
But how about temperature? With once again plastic VAT there will be no way to cure it in the oven in minutes.
I was just about to order/make metal VAT and it all changes just around my nose. I'm behind the times :)

How does the new acrylic vat compare to the old glass bottom vats in regards to optical clarity?

I've been wrong so many times that I hesitate to say anything, but if we can avoid any more vatastrophes, they should be shipping by the end of next week.

Nice! hope everything is sorted out this time around. Would there be the aluminum available with it too or just the new? I requested priority one of each but didn't get an answer in regards to the aluminum. If not I want to edit the request to get 2 of the new ones if possible.

Mike I'm out of country next week can I prepare for a vat so that I'm assured to get one while I'm away? Is there an option for the aluminium vats or 100% going with the acrylic?

Working on details now. We now have plenty for everyone. Expect them to be available in the new store within 24 hours or less.

I love them!
Very consistent pdms thickness due to the new flow over dam.
Consistent enough that table calibration between vats is not really needed.
No dam to trim / mess with anymore.
Injection molded and tough enough to stand on (but don't) :D

Instructions are coming.

For now...

- Pull out the old pdms and clean thoroughly.
- Sit it level.
- Mix and pour in 66 ml of pdms, 60 ml of base + 6 ml of catalyst for a 10:1 ratio
- Let sit at ~72F for 48 hours. Or put it in a hot box at 180F for 2 hours.

- I'd suggest raising the deep end about a 1/4" when pouring it in. This keeps the pdms from flowing over the dam. Let is sit there for 30+ minutes to outgas. Then drop it level. It will flow over the built in dam and the extra gets trapped in the deep end spillway.

How does the 65ml breakdown? How much of each?

but after pouring it on the exposure side we must let it sit for sometime before putting it in a hot box correct? or else it will harden fast and wont spread throughout the area. I will buy couple, to just let it seat and harden itself is the best idea. Just in case if I need it to be faster.

Let it sit an an angle for 30 minutes, then sit it level in the hot box. Depending on how fast your box heats up, you may want to let it sit level for 10-20 minutes to level out before the cure starts.

BTW, all of the vats come pre-coated.

awesome, more like the old ones were done, except it wont take 250 260 temperature. I read somewhere its a 1pc design with no chance of leaks correct?

just a thought here but letting it sit out with no cover for that long I found a few times some debri in it. Ofcourse I am in a shop so I started covering it with plastic wrap. for the time it sat on the counter then removed it when it went in the oven.
