We'll we've had a run on vats over the last week and have temporarily sold out. 8O
We've got more on order, but it will be at least two weeks before they arrive. Sorry! :( ?

Unfortunately our inventory sold out faster than expected and are experiencing a delay from our vendor. We are doing everything possible to get more more in stock asap. The good news is that the new vats will cost substantially less and will be easier to re-coat.

Now that I have the B9 up and running I would like to pick up a new aluminum vat.
Is there and ETA when they will be available again?

In addition, I want to have the new vat glass replaced with the NuVat glass.
I emailed Evert at the address AKgold had listed but have not received a response.
Is he still doing these?

From: http://www.b9c.com/exciting-changes-for-b9creations/

"For customers looking for Vats only, please send contact information and number of Vats desired to info @ b9cdot com. We will give your requests first priority for new Vat shipping."

The new vats will be injection molded, pre-coated and ready to go, also lower cost.

They're about 4 weeks delayed, but we expect them to start arriving in bulk by the end of the month.

Mike,
Does that mean all of the aluminum vats are no longer available and won't be produced in the future?

Can you tell us a little more about the vat like the cost, re-coating pdms, etc?

I expect they will be about 1/2 the cost of the metal (~$120 ->$60).
They will be injection molded orange polycarbonate .
They won't need a vat dam to recoat , as we've created a built in "van Cleeff" dam first suggested by Alexandre van Cleeff in this thread: viewtopic.php?f=18&t=1704&p=16995&hilit=cliff+method#p16995
We experimented with a large variety of dam profiles to find the best one for the process.
Some of the advantages are: easier to recoat - no dam and no menicus to trim, consistent pdms thickness will give more consistent results and should eliminate the need for table calibrations when swapping vats of this same style.

We've been loosing money on the red metal/glass vats, so we don't plan to keep offering them. If there is big demand we might, but the price would need to be higher to make it worth while.

Mike which sweeper should be used on a 1.1 machine using the new polycarbonate vats?

The wider v1.2 sweeper will give better coverage, but the v1.1 should work OK too.

We have been testing several different vat materials, trading off strength of material, resistance to chemical (resin) attack, transparency (clear vs translucent vs black), etc.
The strongest clear material we tried was polycarbonate. But unfortunately it cracks after exposure to many resins (this is why we test). We also like acrylic(clear) and polyester (black), both seem very resistant to resin. The polyester is very strong but I really feel it's important to be able to see through it to monitor the build progress. Flame annealed acrylic is still fairly strong and can be molded clear. The injection molded tool is currently being hardened and then polished for production.

We should have the first run of acrylic vats by early next week and have them shipping by the 20th or so, if all goes well.

I'll try to take some photos tomorrow. The parts we are testing were pulled before hardening/polishing the tool, so the surface is not yet glossy, like in this CAD rendering.
