B9creator 1.1 - DOA?

Hello guys,

I had a spare B9Creator kit (v1.1) that I kept stored for many years in a spare room unassembled. I just put it together and plugged in the AC cord into the wall, as I remember this is all that was needed to get the toggle switches to move the x and z axis motors. Well, the toggle switches are not doing anything and the printer seems to be DOA. I hear some light squealing/screaching coming from the ac power supply with my ear next to it where it's plugged into the power strip.

Any ideas or suggestions? I am afraid if it's the board, I may not be able to source another one and I'll be stuck up a river without a paddle.

Did you upload the firmware to the board? The toggles are just inputs to the board, without firmware the board won't translate those inputs into movements.

Mike,

Thanks for the suggestion. I was able to get the printer working a few hours after posting and all seems to be ok. It was indeed the firmware not being on the board. After not printing for years I think a few cobwebs formed in my brain. I will have to source a replacement for the bottom z-limit switch though as the z-travel continues past the switch when it makes contact. There's quite a wobble in the threaded z rod as well out of the box, but I'm not sure if that's going to pose an issue or not. Is a replacement available for purchase? I also swapped out the stock ceramic bearings for a Japanese set I had luck with on my previous machine which I remember helping with minor z-banding artifacts.

Here's a quick video of the z wobble, does it fall within an acceptable range?

It'll print with the wobble but you might want to see if you can minimize it. It's possible to flex the rod and straighten it out a bit. It's been a LONG time since we've sold any parts for these... (cobwebs here too.)
