First print using FEP and custom made build table

Hello guys.

below are some photos of a 6 cm bust print ,Xy30_Sliced_40 using Deep Black Resin.
i have decided to stop using PDMS and switch to FEP.
So i glued a piece of FEP film into the projection glass and also custom made a more robust build table,
by keeping the top part of the standard build table and completely rebuilding the bottom part ,
Take in mind that i am still testing the FEP ,until now it looks awesome..

MSM with FEP now is reduced to 0,8 when with PDMS for this size i was using 1.5 -1.7 MSM !!

Hi Andreas,
Looks very good!
I used a machined piece of aluminum 1/4 inch thick, laser welded to the original platform.

If you find some materials don't stick well to the glass, Aluminum offers about 2 times the attachment strength... for FEP that can be important as some materials do not stick well!

Hi Daniel,

i used a piece of aluminum as a platform and glued a piece of glass on top of it.
i also used 4 angle steel connectors to make the system goes up and down ..
i am extremely happy with the build ..now i am tightening the screws really hard and nothing moves..
Below are some photos of the build ...
i know it looks battle damaged and not much but i can assure you it works like a charm..

Here is a picture of something I ran in 6+ hours on my 1.1 machine/Highly modified
Running 70 XY by 30. This is using Custom Sticky FEP I had made and has been running for quite a while on all my machines. Fine ladies rings and other stuff runs well using B9 materials. I have great success with the RED/Cherry mix. Settings do have to be played with. You have to recalibrate everything.

Second try of the same bust using FEP and Deep Black resin
2500 layers
Layout30_Slice30
MSM 0.9

Photos are taken right after the print..
i think it looks really good ...

guys to apply the Fep there is no need to modify anything at all..
Just apply it to the projection glass and you are done !!
this will also reveal any imperfections or mis alignments in your printer
cause its far more sensitive than pdms..

see photo below..

the FEP has an adhesive back..
i did not used any glue..
just peel the fep and stick it carefully to the projection glass of the VAT

Oops, I should have read that... I googled adhesive backed FEP and I did not see sheet (mostly tape). Could you post what you purchased?

Thanks

There are different suppliers both Europe and USA.
I got mine from a friend ..
you can also find it here
https://www.mcmaster.com/#fep/=15ib77h
its the code 5805t11
Fep with adhesive back
Use only 0,5mm thickness or more.
The thin ones are useless for slide release..

Hello Cergio,
No i did not order from MC-Caster ,
they do not ship to small business in Greece!!
The "friend" that supplied me the FEP is Metalcaster..

For Europe try send an email to this supplier in Holland.
i.boom@polyfluor.nl.

Ciao,
Andreas

Dont' think Andreas ment to "stick it directly to the build table" (from Dec 17th). I think he meant to say stick it directly to the glass window in the vat.

Metalcaster,

What FEP are you buying and how do you apply it? How long is it lasting? Is successful printing about the same as pdms?

Thank you
Jim

I bought some of the thin stuff from Mcmaster and it curls up so bad when I started peeling it off the backing that I couldn't work with it.

Think there is a thicker one according to Daniel at racecar.

Regarding printing quality ,Fep is definitely giving more quality and sharper prints then PDMS.
Less light scattering ,minimal z-bleed
I am using it for 2 months now printing every day,i am talking for long prints 8-10-12 hours or even more everything sliced at 30Z
No fogging yet !!!
