Aluminum Vat

Hello every One
My both Aluminum vats are rocking so I tried to straighten and the glass lifted off the vat, I would like to know what kind of glue or silicone from Home depot will work ?

Thanks.

the silicone that is used is a Dow Corning product. Search for that and you should be able to fine it on here

This is what i used last time I replaced the glass over a year ago and let it sit for the recommended time for a complete cure

I don't use heat on my aluminum vats cause I don't use PDMS so I don't know how that will affect it

I've used E6000 for many years, for a lot of things. It does well in applications its designed for.
I don't recall seeing the word "sealant" on the tube.
I would give it some serious testing before I put a vat with resin over a projector.
Good luck.
Maybe order what you need from Amazon, if you have no local dealers.

Think metalcaster has used RTV high heat gasket stuff from auto parts store (black).

Think Kirk the originator of the DoubleDog and the KatVat uses an RTV gasket material that is high temp and a blue color.

If it is not available through B9,

I had replacement glass cut custom for me at a Mirror store... they did not charge much to do it. I don't have any left otherwise I would offer to send it.

Look in yellow pages under glass cutting... Should be someone in every state/ city

Can it be just plate glass or something special, like the borosilicate stuff?

I think the Glass I got was just Plate glass... could be Borosilicate.

If its borosilicate, it should have a water clear edge.
Blue or green edge is usually a soda glass, like regular window glass.
I have seen bluish Corning glass measuring cups which used to be boro.

If you want to get picky ask for BK7. Its a water clear optical glass from Schott. Its used for all those fancy telescopes we use to look for space aliens.
Barium glass, developed by Iittala, is also water clear, but I've never seen any float plate or optical glass made from it. But you never know.

The more water clear the edge is, the better.
