Re: How to videos - rough draft- feedback thread

I finally got around to updating to the new software.
I am on my third grid calibration for 30um xy -30um z in the 1-1 mix.

My projector is as far up as it can go so are the focus and setting ring.
My first question is what is the diameter of the pegs supposed to be.
I am at the 1.80mm range give or take with a msm of 1.2
the F minus sign barely comes out.
I am just trying to get the pegs close to the right size before I move to balance fade and slope.
My first print was 1.15mm on the smallest peg

Thank you Mike for all your hard work, the videos are super!

Edit, I found the answer in the video 2mm is the correct thickness of the pegs, still working on getting it right, back to calibration in order to get the proper thickness, so far I went up to 1.3 in the msm, I decided to drop the projector even though the the grid was perfect, I hate to go higher on the msm, so I will see.

this is the 1.2 machine

The MSM is only for small changes in diameter. It seems you need to re-do the projector calibration to get a better initial peg size. It could be that your paper printed grid pattern is too small.

Thank you Mike , I did check the measurement on the grid, they do match up so it did print correctly. I tried dropping the projector to be over the grid size it did not help. prints are were coming out sharp, Just under size. I have checked the printer calibration at least 5 times, I am on my 8th calibration print for the 1.2 machne with the aluminum vat.
I use 45 grams of pdms with the dam 1/4 inch from the glass edge. I get some leaking past the dam.
So far the only way to up the size of the peg is to raise the pdms. I am almost ready to give up on the 30xy 30 z and go to the 50 xy and 30z.

So I am on calibration print 11,30 xy 30z the peg average 1.95mm the only way I can do it is with a msm of 1.350.
is there any other way to increase the thickness of the pegs without raising the msm. In the last version I had to lower the msm because parts were too thick. Would the x and y axis calibration multiplier help, I tried raising the number slightly but the pegs got smaller, so would lower the number help??

Yes, you can re-do the projector calibration, most likely your projected grid pattern is too small. The fade/balance/msm/slope won't help if you don't get the actual projected grid pattern the correct size.

So after 12 prints at 30xy 30 z with the 1-1mix.
I started over with default setting and went with pure cherry. re-calibrated the printer, again,it took three prints.
My pegs are now average 1.96-2.00. My measurements are on uncured models. I am curing now and will remeasure, I will leave it at that and try some real prints.
I am able to go lower the msm with pure cherry, compared to the 1-1mix, my pdms is showing signs of wear, I started in the beginning with a new pdms, this is now 9- 9.5 hours of prints.
Here are my settings.

Here are my printer specific settings.

Printer Specific Settings
Configuration Name: B9Creator v1.2.0, XY at 30 microns
Firmware Version: 213
Firmware File: B9C1_2_0.hex
MSM: 1.25
Slope: 1
Balance: 0.4
Fade: -0.2
Lamp Hours: 50
XACM: 1
YACM: 1
Z Backlash: 0
Z Home: 10400
Slide Open: 4100
Slide Home: 590

If I may ask a few question?

If I drop to 50 micron prints I suppose I should do a new calibration print?

Can I use the Dynamic Vat Positioning with the red aluminum vat?

Thanks,
Michael

You shouldn't need to do another set of calibrations prints.

Yes, but it's important that the pdms is a very consistent thickness (regardless of the vat). If the thickness varies (often can get thinner towards the cliff) then the effective refractive index will change and your slices won''t align with each other properly.

Hi guys -

I found one STL of the calibration grid on Dropbox, but it is different from the one on the video. Where can I find the one Mike it talking about?

Thanks, Scott

Scott,
If you downloaded 1.8 they are in the b9 doc folder, Mike points them out in the videos.

Hi Mike -

I went through the procedure for calibrating the print, as per the video. I have printed 4 calibration STL's making changes as needed. I keep getting the DIAGONAL (corner to corner) pegs to be different sizes. It may just be my measuring with the calipers, but I am consistently getting smaller/larger measurements diagonally. Is this something I can change or are my only options balance/fade/slope?

Thanks, Scott

First, you're already pretty close to perfect!

My suggestion is to only change one variable at a time.

Work the following order:

fade
balance
msm
slope

then repeat to fine tune.

For your next print, I'd only change fade, from -.25 to -.35

Thanks Mike

In the first 4 prints I was only changing one variable at a time as you suggested, but thought I would be smart for #5! I will follow your recommendation for the next one.

Thanks, Scott

Folks,

This is what I'm getting in my first attempt to calibrate the prints

Image

Note:

- all my pegs are larger than 2.0 mm, but they're all pretty much the same size.

- the outside corner pegs on the right were deformed. Is this a printing anomaly, or something I need to adjust

From the above results, it looks like I'm to lower MSM (I'll try 0.9, I suppose).

V1.2 machine, pure cherry, default settings, aluminum vat

Oh, one more thing. While this calibration print was printing, it seemed like when the vat was returning to the projector position (the build table was leaving the deep end), that the build table was too low and the resin that has been printed was "scraping" along the pdms as it repositioned. This didn't seem normal. Comments?
