Hello everyone :)

Scanning time: 2-4 seconds per scan

The model was 1:1 plaster cast of a real skull. But the beaty of this scanning method is that the size does not really matter, because you can calibrate the the projector and camera to really small distance scanning. For example:

This is not my scan, it was posted on DAVID Scanner Forum. You can visit the gallery there - some amazing stuff :)

Great detail in the piece. How much post scan processing is involved? Ever scanned any jewelry, have any pictures?

I use a David scanner for my miniatures (The heads are sculpted at 1:4 scale, not 1:32) I've seen people scanning coins and other jewelry sized things, but it requires some modification of the projector optics to get in that close (I think)

The David software (recent releases) does a decent job of aligning and fusing the scans. Here are a couple life-casts

I have never scanned any jewellery... But here is a scan of a small medallion posted an DAVID scanner forum :)

and a coin:

The postprocessing really depends on how good you get with the whole scanning proccess. If someone is willing to spend some time learning and experimenting, it might be close to none (some basic mesh cleaning).

The original DAVID SLS projectors are quite expensive bacause their optics are already modified, so You can get a sharp image from a few centimeters. The same with the camera. Scanning a coin with this set is not a problem :)
If someone is using their own camera/projector setup they may encounter some problems.

I am scanning mostly outdoors now, often on scaffoldings (I am an art conservator). So I am trying to save as much money as I can to buy a handheld scanner (expensive stuff....)

Ah! My setup is from before they offered the kit, so my projector is a stock Acer K11  . Camera focus is easy to adjust for closeup with extension rings. :) Good luck selling your machine. They work as advertised.
