Re: PDMS replacements

I ordered the FEP from a link provided by someone else in the forums. As for applying the FEP I simply cut a piece that would cover a bit more than my build area, pulled off the plastic protective layer and laid the FEP onto a fresh coat of PDMS. I used the side of a Bic lighter to help me smoothly ...

Re: PDMS replacements

it's not a complete replacement but I have tried adding the FEP film on top of the PDMS, it prevents clouding, so far so good, I think this will be a bit of a game changer.

Re: FEP over PDMS = orange VAT solution

I did modify the attachment layers exactly as suggested earlier in this thread as I'm using emerald. the print definitely seems to be crisper, I was hoping it was just my best focus job yet. my boss seems to believe this machine is capable of a fine polished surface print because he's never happy wi...

Re: FEP over PDMS = orange VAT solution

I did it! I took the plunge and did a fresh coat of PDMS followed by an application of FEP film. the results are spectacular. Exact same if not slightly better print quality, and zero clouding even after a 16 hour print with some vertical supports going straight to the top of the object. Very pleased.

Re: FEP over PDMS = orange VAT solution

from what I've gathered bigger prints can have issues pulling away from the FEP. most of the other users seem to suggest skipping the calibration print on FEP for this reason. but there's only one way to find out for sure  . I'll be right there with you, gonna recoat a vat, put in the FEP and t...

Re: PDMS issue

that sounds ideal, even if I do make a mess of it I should be able to trim the excess with a blade and peel any unwanted material off the glass without leaving much residue.

you would be amazed. I had a very small eye of Ra come out in a print I didn't expect it to.

Re: PDMS issue

thanks i'll give that a shot, can't hurt, as long as I don't have a seizure or something and slop glue all over the window. hopefully this works and this will be the last time I need to apply PDMS for a long time.

Re: PDMS issue

also since we only print at 50 microns on this v1.1 machine the affected area is actually not in the area of the PDMS that will actually be used, could I glue it down/against the wall with an adhesive? or fill the space between the PDMS and wall with hot glue or more PDMS?

PDMS issue

Well I poured a new PDMS coating in preparation to use the FEP film over it. Something weird happened and the PDMS pulled away from the sides of the vat in one corner. Anyone know what could cause this? also I keep getting air bubbles in my waterfall, I don't think they cause any issues, but I don't...

Re: Position and supports

I would suggest on the crucifix tilting it back about 35 degrees, your less complex back should be a good place for your supports. as for the coin. the ridges make it a bit of a nightmare. I would actually add a "flap" that goes around the bottom 3/4 of the model wrapped around the edge of...

Re: Process aborted... motor no longer works

first focus on getting it well calibrated. a lot of people (myself, and more my predecessor with this machine, included) went with "close enough" and ended up having issues. once you find that sweet spot on calibration, you just have to worry about recoating the vats occasionally (though t...

Re: Line pattern on the print?

one of the tricks I've used is painting on a thin layer of resin to give it a smooth surface, a little bit at a time, hitting it with a high powered UV flashlight for a minute or so between each surface application. sometimes it works well, sometimes not.... careful filing and sanding usually is the...

Re: Print tips for cilinder with thin walls

I'd be interested to know how supports (which are supposed to support the piece as it grows and make sure it's all there) are making holes for this chap. General suggestions are to angle straight edged parts because building parallel to the build plate requires a lot of support and still might not w...
