Ability to 'thin' older resin?

I decided to pull my old bottle (two years approximately) of Emerald out of the cabinet and make a print with it, but found that due to age, handling, etc., the concentration of pigment and/or UV inhibitors is higher than normal, requiring significantly longer cure times compared to my old profiles ...

Re: 925 Type Not Printing on Bottom of Block

I assume you are going to use that engraver on the resin prints, right? :D

I'll be curious to hear how well it works for you since it is a pretty novel approach and might give you some more design flexibility.

Re: 925 Type Not Printing on Bottom of Block

I'd guess that the base layers having a higher exposure time over normal layers are over-curing enough that it will wipe out a small 5 point font (which is less than 2 mm tall) just as much as a 7 point font (2.5 mm). You can't print detail on the layers that need to adhere to the build plate with a...

Re: offtopic question for jewleryshop owners

You will always need some sort of hazardous chemical to separate the precious metal from the junk. That refining kit assuming it works only requires nitric acid - nasty none the less, but less nasty than aqua regia! Neutralizing nitric acid to dispose of it isn't too difficult. The electrolytic meth...

I have the Lucas Jewel casting machine (http://lucasdentalcompany.com/photos.html) and their prices and support have been outstanding.

Re: Use yellow resin with third part 3d printers!?

If your lamp is 190W and the one used in the 1.x printers is approximately 280W, you could try 11 seconds to start.

Just do small prints and up the exposure time until it works.

Re: Issues with the underside of the print

The first thing to check at the slice level is that you do not see the edge that is rounded appear to shift by any number of pixels, just to verify the slicer sees it as you do. The other thing I have seen is that when a flat area is suspended by supports above the build plate, there is some sort of...

Re: Issue casting class rings with emeral resin.

40:100 may be a little too wet for this type of detail. You might want to try 38:100 or 36:100 to stiffen up the mix and hopefully hold the detail.

Re: Issue casting class rings with emeral resin.

Looks like erosion of the investment because those are positive defects, right? Could the metal be hitting that hard edge during the casting and blasting it away? You don't see any negative defects from the missing investment in the top of the ring?

Re: Cured Resins Technical Names

They are just considered polymers, which ABS and PLA fall under that broad family tree.

For example, based on the MSDS for B9 Emerald, after curing, it could be considered a methacrylate polymer solid.

If your oven can go 72°F/min, you can get 4320°F in an hour. Which corresponds to 1000°F in 15 minutes. Maybe like you said a programming error? Fahrenheit to Celsius conversion or vice versa? That black char is definitely incomplete burnout due to lack of high end temp or an anaerobic (no oxygen) e...

Re: Frosting from rubbing alcohol?

I've noticed it more if I get water on uncured resin, then try to rinse in isopropyl alcohol.

I've moved to using 91% IPA instead of 70% and I have not see that behavior when rinsing in straight IPA (no water).

The printer in the middle with the orange cover is the Draken from 3Dfacture.

Not sure what the giant metal box on the left is and hard to tell what printer is on the right with the red acrylic cover.

Re: Core 530 vs. 550

You can't genuinely compare a laser galvanometer with variable motion against a fixed DMD array because their mechanisms are completely different. The use of anti-aliasing technology is one way to create a more SLA-like appearance on DLP. The chemistry of the resin needs to be able to handle variabl...
