NuVat by Evert

Yes, good point Mike.. that's the only question in my mind is if there is a wear factor involved? If so how long would the coating last before it begins to wear off? I commend his efforts, as it's by no means a simple task to remove the old glass, the only way is to break it out, chip and scrape awa...

PDMS clouding

HI Robert,

Amazing stuff!

Did you cook this particular PDMS that has not clouded? If so do you remember what time and temps?

Also, was it ever exposed to alcohol?

Thanks for sharing. Best, Kirk

Thanks Robert for sharing that!

Amazing for sure. Keep in mind Mike's GLASS/ALU Vats will be in stock soon, results should be the same! : ) Keep your eye on the B9 store, those are expected to be in stock later this month!

z axis motor stuck but print continues?

HI KNSCi, If you Z is indeed sticking? perhaps linear motions bearings would be the ticket? As discussed in this thread: http://www.b9c.com/support/?mingleforumaction=viewtopic&t=1282 Not having issues with my machine- but ordered these today anyways, perhaps some subtle improvement? But if your Z i...

GEN 2 ALUMINUM "KAT VAT" coming soon!

Will do @ Danmr, (Daniel). Should finally get to those this weekend, I think I have the final design figured out and the soft silicone o-ring cord on hand. Will be adding a small screw to act as a handle to pull up once trimmed, as they can stick pretty good otherwise. Keep in mind not everyone with...

GEN 2 ALUMINUM "KAT VAT" coming soon!

Hi Ben, The blue materiel is expanded PVC and the o-riings are soft buna-n (nitrile). The pvc appears to be rated at 65C, and the o-rings to about 107C, so yes, 50 Fahrenheit should be OK.. if the chart is correct, that's about 65 Celsius Max. But usual oven temps would shrink it though. http://www....

On a brighter note, I am guessing Mike is now off to the Las Vegas show and printing with the new HD Machine? : ) I can imagine he will enjoy a break from the forum while he is gone. : )

@ mongerdesigns, If I was in Mike's shoes it would probably be hard to like me, since what I am offering is an intrusion on his business. Don't know if it has anything to do with like or dislike, it's simply business. People have to do what's in best interest of their business. I have been very luck...

GEN 2 ALUMINUM "KAT VAT" coming soon!

Hello mongerdesigns This is the first I have heard about this, but from the start the aluminum VAT project has been about improving the product and not competing with Mike's offerings. If you look back through the pages in the very beginning I was leery of selling VATS here and had reservations abou...

Hi @Tim- ======= UPDATE: 2/10/2015 Tim was THE only person on the entire forum who ever had issues with coating these VATS! Not one other single complaint from any of the other 100+ users to date! (just so you know) These VATS have been a total success in every way, no issues whatsoever. ======= Sou...

Plexiglass Barrier for a flat PDMS and smooth edge

Looks like a great method for those who don't want to bother with ovens.. : ) So there is no meniscus sticking up at all? Must be exact perfect size radius built into the barrier? Interesting. You will still have the "downward suction" Mike speaks about because it still has traditional "waterfall"? ...

Good job Tim, excellent, I knew you could do it. Perhaps it was the mixing then? If you noticed what looked like uncured PDMS perhaps that was it? I like using a plastic spoon, as the inside of the container is a bit ruff and could cause wood splinters when mixing up against edge? ====== And as prom...

Hi AK, What is the blowing on the PDMS about? Perhaps the condensation from your breath is ending up on the surface adding moisture to the mix? I have heard some jewelers use the "oxygen" side from their torch on the PDMS to disperse bubbles, but would not suggest blowing on it. Keep this in mind: A...

Good luck Tim, Not sure what else to say? Let us know how it goes. Sending you out a "blue divider" to replace one you put in the oven- next post office run. : ) Eventually I should have some kind of I-beam that fits these VATS tightly to make the "I-beam" trim method simpler. Working on it. Best, K...

GEN 2 ALUMINUM "KAT VAT" coming soon!

Hi Tim: The mix ratio is 10:1. 20ML x10% =2 I have been using the 20 plus 2 all along, that's 10:1. The .2 of a gram just went over a tiny hair on the video mix, but no need to split hairs. .2 of a ml is not enough to change the ratio, especially if you are using a scale, it's maybe a couple of ...

Hi Metalcaster, Yes it's true you can lower the temps but takes longer to cure. If I recall correctly, the specs from the manufacture on the PDMS are 300 max. Have successfully cured PDMS numerous times at 275 degrees, takes less than 30 minutes, but any bubbles have to be gone first, but that's ano...

GEN 2 ALUMINUM "KAT VAT" coming soon!

Hi Tim, What I can do is make an "i-beam" dam today at work to demonstrate how to trim the PDMS using this method- just so people know it's not really going to be a difficult undertaking with the adequate tool for the job. : ) But again, for anyone out there, BLUE divider is not designed for I-beam ...
